It is of paramount importance that we recognize our identity as the bride of Christ. If we don’t grasp our identity as the bride of this most perfect Bridegroom, then we may never recognize His invitation us to approach Him with confident trust. We may come cowering, expecting the heavy hand of an angry master. Or we may wear ourselves out trying to earn His love. Or, most tragically, we may not come to Him at all. We may avoid the One we were created to adore.
When we grasp our identity as His bride, it doesn’t lessen any other identity of God. Instead, our senses are heightened to the significance of our response. We are invited to intimacy. We are commanded to love. We are instructed to cultivate faithfulness so that when this Bridegroom comes for us, we are ready.
