Artful lattes…hundreds of miles apart

Woke up to a text message from my best friend: “My latte picture this morning..thought of you. Love and hugs from dc :)”

She may have sent love and hugs, but she didn’t send me a latte… Needless to say, I was incited to jealousy. I love the little coffee shop by her house in D.C. because they always draw little pictures in the milk. It’s the little things, really. So when the afternoon began to drag on, I did a little Googling, then a little GPS’ing. Behold the result:

Can we just acknowledge that that looks absolutely divine?! It tasted even better. (yes, I texted Morgan a little snapshot of my own) And the best part? The latte was hot but not so hot that you couldn’t enjoy sipping it while that pretty little pic was still there!

AND, the coffee shop is only 2.8 miles from my house, which in Houston terms is basically “around the corner.”

It’s very non-Houston. If you don’t know Houston, I guess you’ll just have to take my word on it. It’s kind of a strange blend of small town feel and big-city-alternative (translation: a little weird). It has an artsy flair inside – probably shouldn’t be surprising since they draw pictures in steamed milk. I stood behind a guy in skinny jeans and cowboy boots, and I’m just going to venture a guess that those boots haven’t seen a lot of mud, let alone a stirrup.

There were a lot of MacBooks and I’m gonna go with not a lot of concealed handgun licenses. I liked it anyway – though I admittedly prefer the small town feel to the alternative. And you can convince yourself that you’re actually handing over $3.50 for a cup of coffee in the name of someone else’s dream. Plus, the tax is included in the price on the menu. I find that charming. And classic. I paid with exact change because it felt right. Old school or something.

Next time, I plan to get it “for there” so that I can have it in one of their quaint little mugs. Note to self: take a book!
