iPhone Notes and Half-Formed Thoughts

Sometimes I have very little to say here. Usually it’s when I have a LOT of thoughts that I can’t quite get into sentences yet. So, I thought we would revisit my iPhone notes–my antisocial media outlet. Because it’s mindless and also a little entertaining (at least to me).
My iPhone notes are where I type in incomplete thoughts and keep track of things that I can’t keep track of in my head (which–side note–is getting to be more and more things). So there’s that.

The last time I did this was in April, so I’ll start where we left off…

Ahh, yes, May 26. It’s a note with a Geico policy number, claim number and the phone numbers of several “witnesses.” Because on May 23, I woke up to a loud crash, and walked outside to find this:

That’s a car. In my fence. Fun times. No one was injured. I learned a lot about insurance. It turned out to be a pretty effective way to meet the neighbors.

The next one isn’t until June 29. It’s a list:

  • Googled directions
  • Kind Bars and apples
  • WATER?!
  • Hung up on First Baptist
  • Taser

On my first day of work, I kept a list of things I thought were funny with the full intention of blogging about them. I never did. So here’s the half-blog. I had to Google how to get there on the first day, and it struck me as funny. I also existed for the first few days on Kind Bars and apples because I couldn’t quite figure out how to handle the whole eating lunch at work thing. [It’s not very complicated, but it stressed me out at first.] I think I ate something like 7 Kind Bars the first week. Healthy choices. Can’t remember what the deal was with the “WATER?!” Haha. What I can tell you is that my friends dared me to take a picture with the water cooler like Rory did in an episode of Gilmore Girls. Before I left that afternoon, when no one else was in the kitchen, I did it!

I promise I also did my work. While I was trying to figure out how the phones worked, I did manage to hang up on First Baptist. It was a little awkward, but they called back, and there were no hard feelings. Whew!

Also, that afternoon, two men came in selling tasers. It was the strangest thing. They first handed me a taser so that I “didn’t feel threatened” and then proceeded to show me how they worked. I didn’t purchase any nor have they returned. So bizarre. Side note: tasers are not as expensive as I would have guessed.

The next note is from July 4, and is a quote from C.S. Lewis:

“But two, far from being the necessary number for Friendship, is not even the best. And the reason for this is important … In each of my friends there is something that only some other friend can fully bring out. By myself I am not large enough to call the whole man into activity; I want other lights than my own to show all his facets.”

I wrote it down the day after spending a full day with some of my best friends. The truth of his words landed squarely on my grateful heart.

Next is an RSVP list for my granddad’s 80th birthday. Pretty much all yeses! Because we wouldn’t miss a chance to celebrate him.

Can you guess what this next one is?

IMG_5439

A shopping list for the turkey roasting from July 16!

And the next one from July 17 is a little jingle that Kimi and I wrote for Blue Bell while we sat at the baseball game not eating Blue Bell. Sad day.

“The Astros won
We all had fun
Back when we all had Blue Bell

Listeria
Bacteria
Led to the loss of Blue Bell

Cookies and cream
Now just a dream
Due to the loss of Blue Bell

But hold your cup
And don’t give up
We still believe in Blue Bell”

Performed to the tune of “Deep in the Heart of Texas.” And don’t worry. We recorded ourselves. Let’s all rejoice that Blue Bell returned just over a month after the filming of this treasure.

And then, two days later, a slightly deeper thought:

“The Holy Spirit through the witness of Jesus. They point to each other. “

I think the preacher said it in his sermon. I don’t know who it was, though, and I don’t know what else he said. But this is a good reminder! They point to each other. Yes.

From later that day. An updated schedule of my plans for turkey roasting.

This schedule actually worked pretty well.

And then, from July 23:

“Maybe we aren’t so unlike that woman with the issue of blood after all, who after twelve long years found herself healed, felt her body made well. But the Lord knows we still need to know He has the time to turn around, not to rush us or even carry us forward, but to turn around and let us lay down at His feet, to let us choke out stories that sound like sobs, to let us tell the whole truth, even if we only know a part of it. Maybe He knows we still need to hear Him say that we are okay, to hear Him call us daughter, to hear Him promise that our faith really has made us well. Maybe He’s there. Quiet. Still. Unhurried. Having asked the crowd who has touched Him. Waiting for His child, who really was made well, to fall down and tell Him all that had broken, how badly it hurt, how much she had missed Him, how much she didn’t understand.”

Maybe you have some things you need to tell Him. He really does have the time. And He really does care.

August 1 (I’m telling you, I sometimes have conversations with myself on these notes):

My new favorite thing about having an office job…Saturday mornings (I realize I don’t work on Fridays but there is something about Saturdays)

Fall Saturday activity list:

  1. Farmers market
  2. Picnic brunch
  3. Kayak the bayou

I’ve done none of those things, but it’s only almost October. Still lots of Fall left!

Next is a list I made for my mom of people coming to dinner to celebrate because HUNTER AND DARCEE GOT ENGAGED! (And someone has to figure out how much barbecue that’s going to require.)

August 8:

  • Gen 11:15
  • Ex 19:20
  • Num 11:25
  • Is 64:3
  • Jn 6:41-58

Let’s make this one a game. First one to comment with the common theme of these verses wins something. A fancy pen probably! I don’t know. I’ll figure it out. But it’ll be something tangible. Ready…Go!

August 20: “P3” [No idea. Perhaps a parking space?]

Later on August 20:

Dierks Bentley. Home
Sam Hunt
Will Regan

Pretty sure these are songs I want to remember.

September 6: Grocery list. I’ll spare you the monotony.

September 7:

“How will I know this for certain?” – Zechariah. Luke 1.

It struck a chord. Anyone else?

September 21: A list of adjectives that describe our dear friend Corlischa on her 30th birthday. A small group of friends sent them to me so that we could give them to her. Let’s just take a moment and acknowledge that she is wonderful. As each word came in, I thought. Yes. Yes, she is that. And that too. And also that!

And then from yesterday: “And I take it personal and maybe they didn’t mean it personal. But it pierces sharp and cuts deep. Because it hit right there at the center of my worth. Or of what I count my worth.” Oh, Lord, we need Your truth. It’s a loud, loud world, and our hearts take hits.

And there you have it. A quick glimpse into a smattering of my thoughts over the past few months. I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday. Thanks for meeting me here.

Cody, this was so fun and so good. I loved getting to spend months with you even though it’s after the fact and not IRL.
So, I am going to steal your play-by-play for Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner for SURE. Nicely done. I may skip some steps. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Susan. If I didn’t have to take kids to school I would’ve been a contender……
Although, I would say, “God came down and also Shelah lived a long time because I cannot connect Gen 11:15 to the rest of them.”
