A Place in His Presence Lesson 4: In Their Midst

In Lesson 4, we will consider the role of the Old Covenant. Rather than consider the Law a cruel burden, we will recognize it as God's gift to His people--it taught them how to live with a holy God in their midst. Although access to His presence was limited, He still invited them to draw near, to approach Him in the only way possible. And while the external sacrifices and prescriptions of the Law would never perfect those who drew near (Hebrews 10:1-4), even in them, God was pointing His people to a then-future deliverance. He was pointing them toward the Lamb of God who would one day come and take away the sins of the world.

And with the coming of the Son of God, with the death of our Savior, with the perfect blood of that spotless Lamb, full access was granted into the presence of God, so we draw near to our Lord with confidence and approach His throne with boldness, not in our own righteous but by the righteousness of the One who died that we might live. Really live. In the presence of a holy God.
