Fall Bible Study: An Invitation

I’m really excited about something I get to do this fall! And I want to invite you to be a part of it. That’s right, we’re doing a Bible study! Sign up now to save your spot in person or online.

Face to Face: Intimate Encounters with the Living God

When people talk about seeking the face of God, about learning to dwell in the Lord’s Presence and desiring to encounter Him, I am always stirred to hunger. But I’m also hesitant to hope. What if He doesn’t show Himself to me? What if I don’t encounter Him the way that she did? What if I look as hard as I can and I still can’t see His face?

And what the heck does it even mean to see the face of the invisible God?

Here is what I know: I know that we seek a God who delights to be found. I know that we seek a God who has been revealing Himself to men and women just like you and me since the very beginning of time. I know that He created us to know Him and I know that we will never find full satisfaction or joy or contentment anywhere outside of His presence.

I know that we are invited into the Lord’s presence. I know that we long to encounter Him. I know that we were created to know Him.

I don’t always know what that means in the midst of an ordinary day.

Join us this fall as we open the Bible to explore stories of real people who encountered the Real and Living God.

We will gaze on the face of God who revealed Himself to these ancient individuals. We will let His recorded Word turn our gaze to One we trust is near but is often hard to see.

We will ask God that we might encounter Him right here in our ordinary days.

We will learn to recognize it when we do.

Details about the Bible Study

We will meet Thursday mornings from 9:30-11am in the River Oaks area of Houston, but even if you aren’t able to attend, we would love for you to participate online anytime (more details about exactly how to do that coming ASAP). Sign up now to let us know if you would like to be a part either in person or online.

A special note to people already subscribed to receive this blog via email:

The Bible study emails and teachings will be distributed separate from this blog, so if you want to be a part either online or in person, we still need you to sign up even if you have already subscribed to the blog.

About Kathy Phillips

For those of you who don’t know Kathy Phillips, I can’t wait for you to get to learn from her. She is a gifted teacher whose gentle firmness speaks loudly and points clearly to the heart of God. She has taught the Bible for over twenty years, opening His Word to invite women to know and love the Living God. You can find her other Bible studies and learn more about her at pflbiblestudy.org.

Only the Lord Himself can give us a real, deep and abiding love of His Word, but in my life, He did that largely through Kathy. With her teaching and her life, she has shown me what it means to be a woman who is fiercely confident in the Bible and also humbly desperate for an encounter with the Living God. She teaches me never to settle for information when God has promised us His very presence. She teaches me never to settle for understanding when His offer is mercy and grace and love. She teaches me to study the Word of God and to expect to find God there. I’m so excited to get to teach this study with her. I can’t wait for you to know her too.

Turns out we don’t have many pictures together. But here is one from a few years ago when we got to go to Israel with our families!
